Privacy policy

Last updated: January 2026

Penny (“Penny,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you use Penny’s products and services, including the Penny experience in ChatGPT and any Penny websites, dashboards, or other offerings we may provide (collectively, the “Service”).

  1. Scope
This Policy applies to information processed by Penny when you interact with the Service. It does not apply to:

  • OpenAI/ChatGPT’s own processing of your data when you use Penny via ChatGPT (see OpenAI’s policies).

  • Third-party retailers or websites you visit via links or redirects from the Service.

  1. Information We Collect
We may collect and process the following categories of information:

A) Identifiers and account linkage

  • ChatGPT/OpenAI identifier (if you use Penny via ChatGPT): The Service may receive a pseudonymous identifier (e.g., an “openai/subject”) from the ChatGPT environment. We use this to associate your in-app state and saved items with you.

  • Authentication data (when required): Penny supports features (such as price tracking) that may require you to authenticate. If you choose to link your account, we use an OAuth flow through our identity provider (Clerk) to verify you and obtain a Clerk user identifier. We do not need your password.

B) Usage and interaction data

  • Service interactions: searches you perform, filters you request, products you view, products you track for price changes, and actions you take in the Service.

  • Device and session information: IP address, timestamps, approximate location (where available), browser/user agent data, and diagnostic events.

C) Product and commerce-related data

  • Product identifiers and metadata needed to display results (e.g., product IDs, names, images, prices, and availability) as returned from our backend systems and upstream sources.

  • Price tracking preferences: items you choose to track and (if applicable) the target/observed price history needed to display charts and send alerts.

D) Communications

  • If you contact us, we will collect the information you provide (e.g., name, email address, message contents).

E) Cookies and similar technologies
Where applicable, we (or our service providers) may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to support functionality, detect abuse, and measure performance. Some Penny experiences may run in a sandboxed environment (for example, within ChatGPT), which can limit what storage and browser APIs are available. Your browser, device, and/or the platform you access Penny through may also use its own technologies outside our control.

  1. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and operate the Service (search, product display, product details, and price tracking).

  • Link your platform identity (for example, an OpenAI subject when used via ChatGPT) to your authenticated identity (Clerk user ID) to enable features like price tracking and to streamline authenticated requests.

  • Improve the Service, including relevance, reliability, and user experience (for example, diagnosing errors, monitoring performance, and analyzing aggregated usage).

  • Protect the Service and users by preventing fraud, abuse, and security incidents.

  • Communicate with you, including responding to support requests and sending service-related notices.

  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.

  1. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.

We may share information in the following circumstances:

A) Service providers
We use vendors to help operate the Service (e.g., hosting, authentication, analytics/monitoring, and email delivery). They process information on our behalf under contractual obligations.

B) Identity provider (Clerk)
If you choose to authenticate for price tracking, Clerk processes your authentication and provides us with verification and a user identifier. Your use of Clerk is also subject to Clerk’s policies.

C) Retailers and third parties
When you click “View on Website” or otherwise navigate to a retailer, you will leave the Service. Any data you provide to that retailer is governed by their policies.

D) Legal and safety
We may disclose information if we believe it is necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect the security or integrity of the Service, or protect the rights, property, or safety of users or others.

E) Business transfers
If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

  1. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide the Service (e.g., to keep your tracked products available),

  • Maintain business records,

  • Comply with legal obligations, and

  • Resolve disputes and enforce agreements.

Retention periods may vary by data type. For example, operational logs are typically retained for a limited period, while your tracked items may be retained until you remove them or request deletion, subject to legal requirements.

  1. Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect information. However, no online system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

  2. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

  • Access information we hold about you,

  • Request correction of inaccurate information,

  • Request deletion of certain information,

  • Object to or restrict certain processing, and

  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise these rights, contact us at: founders@trychannel3.com
We may need to verify your request, including by confirming an identifier associated with your use of the Service (such as an OpenAI subject if you used Penny via ChatGPT) and/or your authenticated identity.

  1. International Transfers
We may process and store information in countries other than your own. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for cross-border transfers.

  2. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top indicates when changes were last made. Your continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
